Directions to Yewtree House, Edge, Gloucs, GL6 6NR (telephone 07000 77 77 71)
Finding us without GPS equipment and a degree in orienteering is difficult. A good map helps, except the last bit when you really need help. If you don't want to follow in the tyre tracks of several courier delivery drivers (up to their axles in mud and being towed out by a tractor), then follow these instructions carefully.
First of all, get to Painswick - a local village which is on most maps.
Here are some general directions:
From the Midlands/North via M5: Leave M5 at a new junction 11a (marked A417 to Cirencester); after 2 miles A46 South (marked to Stroud). After a few miles you come to Painswick.
From the South West via M5: Leave M5 at junction 13; proceed to Stroud; take A46 North to Painswick.
From London via M4: Leave M4 at junction 15 (marked A419 to Cirencester); leave the dual carriageway and take the A419 to Stroud; at Stroud take A46 North to Painswick.
From Oxford via A40: Take the A436 (marked Gloucester); at the bottom of a very big hill take the A46 South (marked to Stroud). After a few miles you come to Painswick.
Once in Painswick it is pretty difficult to miss the Church with its famous 99 yew trees. Opposite the lychgate on the A46 there is Edge Road with big walls on either side (at the southern edge of churchyard). Go along Edge Road, drop down a hill, round a BAD bend, over a stream, up a little hill through a tunnel of trees, past a few cottages on your right, 50 metres turn right at a grass triangle. The single track road you are now on is called Back Edge Lane, but there is no sign. When you get to the next grass triangle bear right. You are now alongside Packhurst Farm - be careful now because this is where everyone goes wrong: No, we are not the house you can see (Edge Farm Cottage). You can't see our house from there. Creep forward and you see 4 tracks ahead - and we are the one on the right ("Yewtree House" is marked on the right-hand side of the gatepost). Go down this track for 400 metres and we are just over the cattle grid directly ahead of you.
